JOB DESCRIPTION:          A Paraprofessional is one who is assigned to assist and support the teacher with educational and instructional activities and with nonteaching tasks, but who does not assume the primary responsibility for the classroom.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to:
  •  Supports the education of individuals or small groups of students by reinforcing instruction and development of functional, social and behavior skills initially introduced by certified teaching staff.
  • Supports the teacher to maintain orderly classroom behavior with individuals and groups of students.
  • Performs assigned supervision of students during routine daily activities such as arrival and dismissal, classroom transition times, mealtimes, toileting, recess and on field trips.
  • The teacher in documentation and maintaining anecdotal notes, observations and other approved forms of documentation when requested by the teacher.
  • Monitors student work, corrects papers, supervise tests and make up work, as assigned by the teacher.
  •  Serves as a source of information and help to a substitute teachers.
  •  Alerts the classroom teacher/specialist to any problem or special information concerning an individual student which comes to his/her attention.
  • Assists the teacher in making the classroom attractive and the climate conducive for learning.
  • Under the teacher’s supervision, plans for lessons and group activities
  • Supervise children on playgrounds, during loading or unloading of buses, and performs crossing guard duty, as needed.
  • Under the direction of a teacher creates learning centers, sets up electronic learning devices, develops bulletin boards, and assists with paperwork as needed.
  • Implements specific behavior management strategies as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information as required by federal and state rules and regulations and the policy of Matteson School District 162.
  • Exhibits a high level of ethical behavior and models positive behaviors for students.
  • Lifts seventy-five (75) pounds on occasion as necessary, appropriate, or as directed by the teacher or building principal.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and commitment through punctuality and attendance.
  • Observes and follows all Matteson School District 162 policies and procedures.
  • Maintains positive public relations with the community, staff and students.
  • Participates in job related growth and improvement activities as requested by the Director of Special Education/PPS.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Provide learning experiences in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, fine arts, foreign language, social/emotional development, and other subject in accordance with the curriculum
  •  Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of children with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities
  • Provide ongoing observation and authentic assessment of  children and maintain documentation of each child’s progress and growth
  •  Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips to maintain maximum benefit from their efforts

The Parent Educator will work collaboratively with families, education staff and community partners to ensure that the program meets the needs of the whole child and supports parents in addressing family needs and setting and achievement ambitious family goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Collaborate with teachers and instructional leaders to engage parents in the classroom and school, including meaningful volunteer activities
  •  Lead development and implementation of parent education opportunities
  • Engage parents in parent advisory committee and other leadership opportunities
  • Support program efforts to identify and recruit the most at-risk children in the community
  • Identify and develop potential partnerships with community entities with access to priority populations
  • Coordinate parent meetings and workshops to education parents in the areas of child health, mental health and development
  • Coordinate and conduct home visits as needed to support home-school connection, address attendance concerns and provide other family support
  • Refer families to resources to support their needs; document referrals and progress towards meeting goals

Special Education Coordinator Position Available

Title: Special Education Coordinator

The special education coordinator provides leadership and supervision to school based case managers and pupil personnel services staff regarding the identification of students with disabilities and the provision of related services.  The coordinator reports to the director of special education and pupil personnel services.

Specific responsibilities include, but at are not limited to the following: 
  • Monitor the process of providing timely evaluations and annual reviews to ensure compliance with federal and state rules
  • Assist in the preparation of required reports and submissions to the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Provide guidance and training to case managers to comply with federal and state rules and regulations
  • Supervise and monitor the schedule and activities of speech pathologists, social workers, psychologists, occupational and physical therapists, and other PPS
  • Represent the district as the local education agency (LEA) representative at IEP meetings as assigned by the director
  • Assist with the management of the special education budget, including the preparation of on-line budget proposals and amendments and the allocation of funds to each program
  • Assist administrative staff and teachers to address issues or concerns from parents

Qualifications:
Required: The candidate must have current ISBE certification in the following areas:  Type 75 Administrator, Type 73  School Service Personnel or Type 10 Special Teaching license; knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations regarding the administration of special education and related services.

Desired: Candidate should have at least 5 years experience as a school counselor, special education teacher or related service provider for students.   The candidate should have, or is in process of obtaining a director of special education license.

Bilingual Adult Therapist Position Available for the Kenneth Young Center

Position Grade: Salary Range: $40,000 - $62,550
Job Scope: Adult therapists provide behavioral health services in an outpatient community based program serving adults. Engage clients in treatment planning and motivational enhancement that leads them towards attaining positive change in their lives. Provides individual, group and family treatment that targets improvement in functional impairments. Specific team assignments will be determined based on clinical expertise, experience, interest and credentials.
I. Primary Responsibilities Provide initial screenings and mental health assessments that identify service needs and recommend options for care

B. Share assessment findings with clients and their families
C. Involve client and their families in the development of treatment plan goals,
objectives and interventions that address their assessed behavioral health needs

F. Provide coordinated care by initiating or participating in client centered
consultation with other internal and external providers involved in care or
services
G. Reassess and review treatment progress with clients and their families at

Education and Experience
  1. Masters degree from an accredited college or University in Social Work, Psychology or closely related discipline and be licensed or eligible for certification. 

  2. Must have supervised experience in providing counseling and/or psychotherapy services 

  3. Must demonstrate knowledge in the areas of diagnostic assessment, long and short term treatment, family systems theory and group treatment 

  4. Must have basic computer and keyboarding skills 

Schedule:
Full-time, Exempt, 37.5 hour work week
Must work evening and/or Saturday hours
