Teaching Assistant Position Open for Weekend Enrichment Program (Grades PreK-9)


This is a temporary, part-time position available at five different locations in the Chicagoland area.

Job Description: Teaching Assistants work with academically talented students and their instructors to build a comfortable and rigorous learning environment in a gifted education classroom. Students are ages 4 through 15, depending on class assignment. More information about the program is available online: www.ctd.northwestern.edu/wep

Pay: $216.00 per course ($12/hr)

Locations: Evanston (NU campus), Palatine (500 N. Benton), Naperville (North Central College), Chicago (751 N. State), and Lake Bluff (350 W. Washington Ave).

Dates: This position requires attendance on six Saturdays, 4/8/17 – 5/13/17 Selected additional Sunday positions may also be available in Evanston.

Times: Courses are held in the mornings (9:00-11:30am) and afternoons (12:00-2:30pm). Work hours are 8:45-11:45am (for morning courses) and 11:45am-2:45pm (for afternoon courses). Teaching assistants may work one or both class times, depending on assignment.

Minimum Experience and Skills:
High school diploma, experience working with children/students, and an interest in the field of education. Teaching assistants must be willing to assist the cooperating teacher as requested, and have exceptional communication (written and oral) skills. Teaching assistants are often requested to take anecdotal notes on students, so keen observation skills and a willingness to get to know each student is a must.

4-H Summer Camp Counselor Needed

Title: 4-H Summer Camp Counselor
Work Dates: May – August 2017
Location: Camp Bob Cooper, Summerton, SC

Principal Duties:

·     Assist in teaching all components of the summer camp program including canoeing, teams course, high ropes, climbing wall, recreation, arts and crafts, swimming, tubing, paintball, and archery (training provided).
·     Lead campers in daily program classes and activities (wake-up, flagpole, meals, campfire, and wrap-up).
·     Become actively involved in all program activities, leading and participating in evening recreational and instructional times as scheduled.
·     Assist with routine cleanup.
·     Choose a specialty area to assist as needed with rental group responsibilities.
·     Set-up, maintain, and break down the site and program areas.
·     Perform direct supervision of children while involved in classes and activities.
·     Perform camp counselor duties including staying with and attending to campers over night while they are at camp.
·     Perform duties that are required by the Camp Director.


Salary: $440-$580 twice a month plus lodging, meals during camp and a sickness/accidental insurance plan.

Assistant Teacher Wanted for After School Program

Supporting Literacy and Math (SLAM) is seeking one Assistant Teacher to join the team of an innovative after-school program. SLAM provides foundational-skill support in reading and math to at-risk kindergarten and first grade students attending a Chicago Public School in Rogers Park. The program engages students by offering a curriculum that celebrates active learning. Students are taught in groups of eight. 

SLAM meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. and runs from mid- October-mid-May. The position pays $20 an hour. 

Candidate must be flexible and willing to adapt to the needs of the students. Applicant must be team player and welcome the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment. Experience working with primary age children is required.

Math Teacher Needed at Dyett High School

CLASS TITLE: Math Teacher

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
All teachers new to the district must first gain eligibility in the CPS Teacher Quality Pool to be considered for teaching positions.  Information on these steps is available on the bottom of the CPS Careers page.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of all student teaching requirements as well as all course work required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Teachers must possess at least one of the following valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL), Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) or a Substitute License.
