Des Plaines Public Library Internship

Summer Reading Club Preschool Outreach Intern
This internship has proven to be a great start for those interested in LIS, Early Childhood, or other related fields. As part of a two-person team, you will experience working with preschool-age children, performing story times, and playing a pivotal role in a library’s outreach team. The successful candidate will perform exciting story times for children ages 2-5 at their preschools, and encourage the children to visit the library. This internship begins Monday, June 4 and continues until Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
Minimum qualifications
Applicants must have a valid Illinois driver’s license, must be comfortable driving a minivan, and must be able to provide his/her own vehicle for travel to and from the outreach locations.
Hours
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each week (excepting Wednesday, July 4th holiday).   
Salary
$14.00/hour, plus reimbursement for mileage as necessary.

Chicago Zoological Society is now hiring!


 

The Chicago Zoological Society's Brookfield Zoo is now hiring a Camp and NatureStart Programs Counselor!
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Facilitate a variety of camp and specialty program topics and themes through techniques, including investigation, exploration and instruction.   Programs include, but are not limited to, Zoo Camp, Safari Sleepovers, Kid’s Clubs, and Mini Camps.
  • Partner with Camp and NatureStart Inclusion Specialist to plan for accommodation of participants with special needs.
  • Facilitate program/activity development, prototyping, and documentation.
  • Supervise program participants throughout the park during all program activities and zoo tours, maintaining a minimum 1:6 staff to child ratio at all times.
  • Assist program participants with all activities, games, and projects that relate to the designated program themes.  
  • Organize all daily supplies for activities including free play, arts and crafts, snack time, and games.
  • Maintain open communication on a daily basis with parents and/or guardians of program participants regarding questions, concerns, discipline issues, daily activities, etc.
  • Direct and/or delegate Seasonal Camp and NatureStart Programs Counselor Assistants to complete tasks as appropriate.

Starting pay $15.25 per hour.  High School diploma or (GED) equivalent required.   Must be at least 18 years of age as required by the American Camp Association Guidelines.  Camp programs are for children ages 4 to 14.  The Chicago Zoological Society strives to provide the most inclusive guest experience possible by providing an environment that fosters respect for all individuals and celebrates differences.  Experience working in inclusive informal, educational, or recreational programs a plus.

Organized by the Education Consortium Schools: University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Loyola University, and DePaul University. Noble's Diversity Networking Night Feb 7

What inspired the event?  At Noble, we serve 98% students of color, 84% first generation college students, and 87% low-income students.  In order to be most successful in college and beyond, our students need to have both “windows and mirrors” in their teachers and role models.  At this particular recruiting event, we are hoping to meet passionate, mission-aligned teachers and leaders who share one or more identities with our students.  The main objective of the event is for prospective candidates to meet some of our Noble staff: Principals, Deans, Teachers, and Hiring Managers. Part-time Freshman Connection Program Coordinator


Job Title: Part-time Freshman Connection Program Coordinator
Unit: Office of School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising
Reports to: Director of School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising

 Position Overview

To support students in making a successful transition from eighth grade to high school, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will offer a five-hour, four-day Freshman Connection (FC) program during the summer of 2018. During this four-day program, students will work directly with school staff to learn academic and study skills, participate in culture and climate building activities and receive orientation supports. Each participating school will submit a Freshman Connection program proposal aligned to freshman on-track performance standards. Principals will be allowed to differentiate their program to the unique needs of their students and communities.

Timing of the Program

Freshman Connection program planning begins in January 2018 with implementation scheduled to begin during the summer months.
