The After School Teacher/Group Leader is responsible for
implementing program activities and providing direct service to children in a
comprehensive school based after school program. The School-Age Worker will
work 12-15 hours per week during the school year. Position is contingent upon
funding. This is an ideal position for college students pursuing a degree in
elementary education.
Essential
Responsibilities:
•Planning fun and educational activities to keep children
engaged throughout the summer program. Activities can include: trips to nearby
attractions, sports, games, food experiences, character-building exercises,
music and dance performances, arts and crafts, foreign languages, math or
science activities, etc.
•Engaging one on one with children daily about their lives,
interests, and experiences
•Establish consistent rules and behavioral expectations and
convey them clearly and consistently. Help children to resolve conflicts by
using a problem-solving approach. Ask children open-ended questions and make
suggestions to promote problem solving.
•Supervising and ensuring the safety of all children at all
times
•Administering medications if necessary (given proper
training)
•Completing daily attendance
•Building relationships with parents and school personnel,
communicating professionally and respectfully at all times
Educational
Requirements:
•Minimum 2 years of experience with school-age youth or
group child care environments.
•At least two years of college education and experience
working with children and young people (after school and youth-oriented
programs preferred).
•At minimum, applicants must meet the DCFS guidelines for a
school-age worker (30 semester hours of college credit with 6 semester hours in
an educational field OR 1 year experience with 6 semester hours in an education
field such as elementary education, physical education, child development, or
early childhood education)
*Must pass a criminal background check and provide current
medical exam including TB test
