Part-time Freshman Connection Program Coordinator


Job Title: Part-time Freshman Connection Program Coordinator
Unit: Office of School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising
Reports to: Director of School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising

 Position Overview

To support students in making a successful transition from eighth grade to high school, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will offer a five-hour, four-day Freshman Connection (FC) program during the summer of 2018. During this four-day program, students will work directly with school staff to learn academic and study skills, participate in culture and climate building activities and receive orientation supports. Each participating school will submit a Freshman Connection program proposal aligned to freshman on-track performance standards. Principals will be allowed to differentiate their program to the unique needs of their students and communities.

Timing of the Program

Freshman Connection program planning begins in January 2018 with implementation scheduled to begin during the summer months.

Salary
Hourly rate of pay pending.

Middle School ELA Opening

We are looking for a full-time Middle School ELA teacher.  We require a middle school ELA endorsement as a teacher or a college degree as a long-term substitute.
CLASS TITLE: Teacher
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for instructional planning, including, but not limited to, providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program, establishing positive learning expectation standards for all pupils, and evaluating pupils' progress and maintaining current and accurate records of pupils' achievements;
  • Implements instructional methods, including, but not limited to, applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, drawing from the range of instructional materials available in the school, participating in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques, and providing bulletin board and interest areas reflective of pupils' current work;
  • Exhibits and applies knowledge of the curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level;
  • Participates in programs to improve student attendance; promotes anti-vandalism programs in the schools;
  • Establishes and maintains reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds, including, but not limited to, playgrounds, corridors, and lunchrooms, consistent with the provisions of the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code;
  • Maintains accurate attendance records and seating charts; encourages student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept;
  • Ensures fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and exhibits an understanding and respect for students;
  • Initiates appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and/or ancillary personnel, in accordance with school procedures;
  • Communicates with parents or guardians and counsels pupils on the pupil's academic progress, attendance, and conduct.

Summer Teaching Positions




 The Institute of Reading Development is seeking candidates for summer 2018 teaching positions. We seek applicants with an undergraduate degree or higher from any discipline. We provide a paid training program and comprehensive on-going support.

We hire people who:

The Institute teaches developmental reading programs in partnership with the continuing education departments of more than 100 colleges and universities across the United States. Our classes for students of all ages improve their reading skills and teach them to experience absorption in literature.
