Generate
thematic teaching that springs from students’ curiosity
- Integrate
writing, reading, math, social studies, and sciences into thematic
project- or problem-based study
- Be
flexible in allowing students room to grow at their individual pace,
attending to the social and emotional as well as academic life of each
student
- Incorporate
inclusive and justice-oriented teaching and learning into day-to-day life
of the classroom
- Use
careful observation, anecdotal notes, artifacts of the student’s own work,
and other forms of assessment to document and nurture each student’s
progress
- Employ
creative and alternate teaching strategies to foster each student’s
talents
- Help
guide students in independent research or arts projects in which they
explore in depth a topic or idea of their own choosing
- Help
guide students’ high school search and application process and help
students prepare for high school success
- Express
ideas in a clear and timely manner in written home/school communications
- Write
on average three narrative reports (to accompany three parent-teacher
conferences) for each student annually
- Foster
a collaborative culture and work closely with colleagues

B.A.
or M.A. in Education or related field preferred
- Experience
in teaching children in the upper elementary/middle level grades
- Ability
to organize and manage classroom for purposeful, project-based and
problem-based inquiry
- Commitment
to and understanding of child-centered teaching and learning
