QUALIFICATIONS: The
successful candidate will have a valid Professional Educator License in
Elementary Education, and be ESL endorsed or willing to complete an ESL
endorsement program.
- Be fluent in Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Have an understanding of the culture and history of Spanish-speaking peoples and countries
- Be willing to assist with the planning and development of the dual immersion program to include curriculum development and community outreach. Willingness to work paid summer hours preferred.
- Be willing to collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching and learning by designing, planning, and implementing academically rigorous lessons.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Be knowledgeable of, or willing to attend professional development on, the characteristics of the student learning process, curriculum, classroom management skills, and familiarity with the Common Core as it relates to Dual Immersion Programs.
- Be knowledgeable of, or be willing to attend professional development on, methods, assessment tools, and materials for teaching in a dual immersion program.
- Experience teaching Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Science in Spanish preferred.
- Be willing to fulfill the Duties and Responsibilities as detailed on the reverse side.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Participates in the teaching/coaching model in collaboration with mentor teachers and district coaches to enhance teacher expertise.
2. Collaborates on lesson planning and develops expertise in all areas of instruction by working with mentor teachers and district coaches.
3. Is knowledgeable of the New Illinois Learning Standards.
4. Is knowledgeable of assessment practices and data analysis for instructional purposes.
5. Uses all district resources available to support instructional programs.
6. Communicates and cooperates with other staff members, support personnel and administration.
7. Plans, coordinates and facilitates meetings with parents and community members in student learning through a variety of activities including Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee meetings.
8. Participates collaboratively in professional growth and seeks to improve teaching skills including ongoing applied professional growth groups (i.e. Professional Learning Communities).
- Prepares a time schedule for all classes and activities
conducted under the teacher’s supervision.
- Prepares and leaves in the classroom lesson plans for
several days work for normal instruction and for a substitute in the event
the teacher is absent.
- Directs the learning experiences of students through
appropriate instructional planning, preparation and teaching utilizing
instructional strategies adopted, implemented, and/or supported by the
district.
- Determines student progress through implementation of
appropriate and approved evaluation
methods and instruments.
- Maintains accurate records of student academic progress
and student attendance in accordance with the district grading policy.
- Provides supervision and enforces classroom and
building management plans as incorporated in the District Parent/Student
Handbook.
- Insures the care and proper usage of school property
and prepares an annual inventory as required to complete the general and
instructional requisition.
- Participates in the continuing in-service programs of
the district.
- Communicates professionally and effectively, bot orally
and in writing with parents and colleagues.
- Maintains records and documentation for Data Teams.
- Assumes reasonable duties as directed by the
Superintendent, Director of Curriculum/Assessment & Instruction and/or
Principal.
