Peer Lead Position Available

Now Hiring: Peer Lead Position

Time: Monday 12:30 – 5:00 (pay $61.25 per week, Jan 13 – May 13)

Requirements: Core courses in psychology, education, and/or justice 

Description: Join Dr. Melissa Sisco in a rare opportunity to help facilitate a team of students learning about youth violence through participating in an internship at a crisis shelter with urban kids who have been removed from home due to abuse, neglect, or community disorganization.  Sisco will work with you to develop the skill sets that will be most advantageous for you in your career with a consideration of your strengths and areas of growth.  Your responsibilities as a peer lead are to meet with Sisco and the 3 other peer leads each Monday at 1230-2 to plan for the week, at 2-330, you will have a specific clerical task (e.g. Copying papers, arranging materials for activities), and at 330-5 you will help facilitate the bond between a youth and mentor while providing leadership through a series of stations that provide clinically geared tasks to help the youth being mentored learn the lesson of the day through playfulness. The mentorship program provides 60 students and 60 youth a fun filled semester of getting to know each other and bonding over creating and tackling SMART goals. 

*Peer Leads have the opportunity to assist in leading discussions and lectures as well.
