Professional Development Coordinator Needed

Teach Plus is looking for a coordinator to launch and grow C2 (Core Collaborative) in Chicago, as a potential model for other Teach Plus sites as well.

The mission of Teach Plus is to improve the achievement of urban children by ensuring that a greater proportion of students have access to excellent, experienced teachers.  C2 is a teacher-led professional learning series through which teachers come together to collaboratively learn from each other and selected experts about the Common Core (including implementation challenges and solutions, instructional strategies, practices, and materials).  Click here for a more detailed job description.
Ideal candidates should have:

A passionate commitment to improving public education by retaining and supporting outstanding teachers in urban schools
  • 4+ years in the education field, with preference given to candidates who have both a teaching background and experience coaching teachers and school leaders in an urban environment
  • Common Core Literacy and/or Math instructional coaching experience
  • A focus on data, including analysis and using it to inform instruction and make decisions

The Hanul Family Alliance, a 27 year old, community based, progressive social service organization in the Chicago metropolitan area,  seeks an ESL/Citizenship Instructor. Supervised by the Education Program Coordinator, the ESL/Citizenship Instructor will teach Permanent Legal Residents, who are Limited English Proficient students, basic English and civics education to better prepare them to take the Naturalization Exam.

Qulaified candidates should possess TESOL or Edcuation Degrees or Bachelor's degree with two or more years of teaching experience. Must have bilingual and bi-cultural (Korean-English) knowledge; Basic Microsoft Office skills; flexibility to attend meetings and trainings outside of the agency; and  excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The work schedule is M-W 9:00-11:30 (ESL) and Thur 9:00-10:30 (Citizenship) in Mount Prospect.

Art Assistant Needed in Chicago

This message comes from Tiffany Armitage, a School Counseling Intern at Crown Academy in Chicago.

Below is a request made by the Crown Academy Art Teacher looking for volunteers to assist with projects throughout the school. The art teacher would love some help creating a bright and artistic environment for students to learn in as well as to show off the vast accomplishments of Crown Academy to parents and visitors.

Specifically, the teacher is seeking creative students to help hang posters, install bulletin board displays, and help document the impact of arts on student learning.  She is looking for  volunteers who can work approximately 3+ hours per week, (one afternoon per week, flexible).  The volunteer must be detailed oriented and comfortable cutting and gluing!  This is a perfect volunteer position for scrap-bookers, and graphic art or education majors!

The school is close to the Central Park pink line. The volunteer could receive food and transportation, a recommendation, help developing a teaching portfolio, art materials...and of course undying gratitude. 

Tasks include:

  *   setting up theater and computer lab classrooms
  *   alphabetizing and labeling students portfolios
  *   designing bulletin boards and prepping displays
  *   photographing displays

Hillside Academy East Campus (HAEC), a member of The Menta Group, is an alternative safe school for elementary, middle and high school students who are at-risk of suspension or expulsion or have other special education needs to be served. The school's curriculum is geared to primary, middle and high school students, and the credit earning system for high school students is aligned with its partnering district/Chicago Public Schools. This partnership thus allows for seamless transitions from and to the students' home schools.
